QSK amplifier keying circuit for Yaesu FT-1000MP, FT-1000MP Mk-V

The BAND DATA connector pins can be used for QSK keying of Alpha 87A, 89, 99, and 91B amps. Pin 2 (+ Keying) goes to center of RCA connector that plugs into RELAY jack on amp. Pins 3 (Gnd) and 8 are connected to Gnd (shield of cable to amp).

Turn LIN SW off to disable internal amp keying relay (refer to your radio manual for exact instructions for your model).
Connect cable to RELAY jack of Alpha amplifier.

An assembled cable is available from Alpha/Power for $69.00 (plus S&H).

BAND DATA connector pin numbers:
With the opening between pins or "key" at the bottom VIEWED FROM THE SOLDER SIDE of the connector, pin 7 is at 7 o'clock then moving clockwise, the order continues as 1 4 2 5 3 8 with 6 in the center. Pin 8 is at 5 o'clock.

Connecting to the Alpha 99 or Ten-Tec Centurion (N1EU)

The Yaesu FT-1000MP and either of these amplifiers are an excellent match and are easily interfaced for qsk operation without using the internal relay of the FT-1000MP.

You will need the proper 8-pin DIN plug for the MP's Band Data jack on the rear panel, as well as a length of two conductor shielded cable and two phono plugs.  The phono plug for "KEY IN" on the Centurion or "RELAY" on the Alpha 99 connects to pin 2 of the DIN plug and the phono plug for "KEY OUT" (both amps) connects to DIN pin 8.  Ground the shields via DIN pin 3. The last paragraph of page 68 of the FT-1000MP manual gives a good explanation of the connection.

The "LIN" switch on the MP rear panel stays in the off position.  Leave the Centurion's "Control Mode" switch in the QSK position.

You may also want to refer to Connecting the FT-1000MP to Acom 2000A or other QSK amp, which has a more general treatment of the subject.  Note that I didn't find it necessary to use the pull up resistor on pin 8 as is shown on that page.
